How the Filtration System Works
As the driller progresses through various hole sizes, our filtration system actively removes ferrous material from the drill string before it reaches the rotary steerable system by using a magnet filtration sub. The downhole filter removes all non-ferrous debris causing turbulence and slowing down the fluid, allowing the magnets to take advantage of this phenomenon and catch the remaining ferrous debris.
The Down Hole Filter features 3/16” slots, proven effective in capturing metal debris even in demanding offshore drilling environments. Its offset bypass holes are intentionally positioned away from the entry ports to reduce the risk of debris bypassing the filter slots. With a large debris capacity of up to 10 lbs, depending on tool size, it offers reliable protection and extended service life during downhole operations.
Our new Magnet Filter features a concentrated magnetic field at the center of the cartridge, maximizing efficiency. It delivers a strong pulling force of 7.5 lbs. on a ½” steel ball—417 times its own weight—and maintains this performance at temperatures up to 392°F.
Key features include:
- Strategically placed baffles: Direct metallic debris out of the flow path while aligning with the cartridge’s strongest magnetic zones to maximize capture efficiency.
- Removable cartridge: Enables easy debris collection and post-run analysis.
- Field concentration zones: Dark red areas indicate peak magnetic strength. Baffles are positioned in these zones to maximize metal capture from the drilling flow.
This design ensures efficient separation and retention of metal contaminants during downhole operations.
